I gave to Haiti, did you? While I did give, it just felt like it wasn’t as much as I would like to or can afford at the moment. I thought maybe I’ll take time to work in a local charity? Reality of course set in, the reality that I’m a full-time student and hold a part-time job.

Why not use what I know, social media, I mean, I did get my internship, now job because of it. So why not try to leverage social media again?

So what’s the idea/hack?

It’s simple;

This is what it it should look like.

A month from now you will post a reminder to people about the tragedy in Haiti and that donations are still needed. Maybe a person that sees the message wasn’t able to give when it was in the public eye? Maybe they have cash to spare when your message gets posted? So maybe, just maybe they will give when they see the message you just posted, a month later? Now, multiply that person times a thousand and you have some serious donations!

Also, it doesn’t have to just be a month from now, you can post up to 3 months later. Or even better yet, you could repost the same message multiple times for 3 months!

Helpful notes:
Curious if your message has been scheduled? Just add a column, select the service you scheduled it on and pick “Pending Update” then select the account on that service and click “Create Column”, now a new column will show up with your pending message for that service.
Hint: If your message doesn’t show up right away hit the refresh button.

Normally I do not write about anything regarding my coworkers, however, I would say this warrants some fleshing out. Name changes will be used to protect the “innocent”.

Yesterday I decided to go out to lunch with my fellow workers for some very very spicy wings at some place called BW3. Now I had gone out to lunch before with my good bud who we’ll call Agent Smith. However, I had not gone out with Mr. Tubbs. Mr. Tubbs was a contractor and was generally agreeable to speak with on the job, the lunch provided an opportunity to get to know him as he really is.

Dialogue

Mr. Tubbs: What’s with all the Jews and gays on TV lately? I mean every show has either a Jew or a gay person on it.

Me: {in my head: Oh my god, did he just say that out loud? In one sentence he managed to take a swipe at me and my mother! } Verbal response: I’m not sure what you mean?

Mr. Tubbs: I don’t know, why they are always on and why do they have to kiss? It makes my skin crawl. But two women that’s another story.

Agent Smith: So seeing someone like Harvey Fierstein would just make your head explode?

Mr. Tubbs: That show Heroes is the only one I’ve seen lately that doesn’t have a Jew or a gay character on it.

Me: Doesn’t mean it wasn’t created by one. And also, while he wasn’t openly gay on the show, George Takei was on the show recently.

So yeah, the discussion went on from there and sorta fizzled out as we ate our hot wings that were so hot Mr. Tubbs and I were sweating. Then on to the drive back, Agent Smith decided to bring up the guy who got a horse to fuck him up the ass then died because of a ruptured anus and about how the video got out on the net. Then after that he brings up another guy who trained a dolphin to fuck him and he went through he trouble of setting up a website on how to do it….

At this point I’m rolling in laughter in my head at how funny this is. How Mr. Tubbs must be crawling in his skin. Then, right after lunch Agent Smith and I get on IM and the following conversation ensues.

Agent Smith: heh

so what do you think is on Mr. Tubbs’s mind?

(the one by you) complaining about gay guys in shows, seeing gay guys kissing, and then the whole disclaimer about “well I’m not starting at you all day but” on the way in the door just now

My collection at the moment is about 9TB, all stored on a pair of local file servers. About 8TB of that is video, but I have around 1TB of pictures as well.

I have incoming directories for unsorted material, but generally speaking, I try to break things up by the studio responsible (Girlfriend Films, say, vs. Danni.com vs. Playboy etc).

For materials that I can’t categorize that way, either because I don’t know the producer or because it’s a one-off sort of deal (amateur stuff), I go ahead and but the material in a directory of generic content (Straight sex vs. Tranny Zombie Midget porn) or by the name of the principle performer (Faye Valentine, Tera Patrick etc) under a /starring directory.

Video content mostly isn’t that bad. Images are nuts. When possible, I still try to categorize by model name, but if I don’t know it, or if she’s one of the billion or so Eastern European models, the images get filed by the studio or “branding” on the image (Femjoy, MetArt etc). Picture collections just stay in their own directories.

Videos are indexed by name on my servers. I wrote a simple little web app that lets me search the whole collection by file name or with keywords gathered in a text file with the same name as the video (I make those myself, but only if I need to).

I actually don’t have much difficulty remembering where I’ve put things, even through 9TB of data (that’s 150x more stuff than the guy with 60GB) and even without my little search tool. The whole project of constructing this system has really been an ongoing project to teach myself about Enterprise-level data storage and information retrieval. There’s a whole system of failsafes and backups that I’m not even talking about.

Sometimes I have free time… I spent my time creating this book cover for my Digital Imaging Class. Only a select few will get the humor….
